چکیده

The characterization of human gait using force platforms is one of the finest areas of biomechanics. Typically these force platforms are large, fixed and restricted to a laboratory environment. Therefore, a system for monitoring the human gait that is flexible, small-sized and can be installed in the actual sole of a shoe is desirable for many applications. We developed a portable, lowpower consumption system to continuously monitor the forces involved. Experimental data were compared with simulated data using finite elements method (FEM). The results showed that the system was stable and adequate to application proposed. Results showed a linearity error of 1.25% on the vertical axis, revealing the smooth functioning of the system. Found deformations in the load cells were compared with the simulated model, showing a difference of 5.8% at most. This system might be helpful to monitor force measurement for the human gait.

Gait-force model and inertial measurement unit-based measurements: A new approach for gait analysis and balance monitoring

Background/Objective This work describes a new approach for gait analysis and balance measurement. It uses an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that can either be embedded inside a dynamically unstable platform for balance measurement or mounted on the lower back of a human participant for gait analysis. Methods and Results The acceleration data along three Cartesian coordinates is analyzed by ...

Deficits in Scaling of Gait Force and Cycle in Parkinsonian Gait Identified by Long-Term Monitoring of Acceleration with the Portable Gait Rhythmogram

To examine the range of gait acceleration and cycle in daily walking of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), we compared the gait of 40 patients with PD and 17 normal controls by using a newly developed long-term monitoring device that extracts gait-related accelerations from overall movements-related accelerations. The range of change in gait acceleration, relative to the control, was less ...

Vertical Ground Reaction Force Gait Patterns During Walking in Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

The characteristics of vertical ground reaction force (VGRF) gait patterns in children with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) are poorly understood. The purpose of this study was to identify VGRF gait features that discriminate between children with ASD and the peer control group. The VGRF data were obtained from 30 children with ASD and 30 normal healthy children aged 4 to 12 years. A three-dime...

A Portable Gait Asymmetry Rehabilitation System for Individuals with Stroke Using a Vibrotactile Feedback

Gait asymmetry caused by hemiparesis results in reduced gait efficiency and reduced activity levels. In this paper, a portable rehabilitation device is proposed that can serve as a tool in diagnosing gait abnormalities in individuals with stroke and has the capability of providing vibration feedback to help compensate for the asymmetric gait. Force-sensitive resistor (FSR) based insoles are use...
